Multiple layers in datasets or data layering structures your datasets into stages—from raw system data to processed and report-ready information—ensuring more accurate insights, scalable reporting, and faster dashboard performance.
By splitting data into layers, heavy computations of Professional Services Automation (PSA) data involving joins and aggregations can be done in intermediate layers. Reports and dashboards can then query lighter, pre-aggregated data instead of raw data—improving performance and reducing query time. This approach also scales well as data volume grows.
You can utilize dataset layering in the MSPbots app to resolve:
- Data synchronization issues
- Errors from increasing data volume
- Missing data in widgets
- Reports sending failures
- Widget load time errors
The default dataset layering in the MSPbots app is 14 days. To customize the default dataset layering:
- Navigate to Widgets and find the widget for optimization.
-
Click the ellipsis ... and select Edit.
- Select Dataset on the Widget Builder menu.
- Go to the layered Data Source and click the ellipsis ... icon > Edit.
-
When the Dataset window opens, select the data layer to apply to your widget.
